Can't say for sure on other distros, but on both my Arch boxes *most*
of what flashes over the screen at boot can be found in
/var/log/kernel.log and /var/log/boot - a quick cursory glance into
each suggests that it *should* have what you're trying to read at
least.
Of course, kernel.log isn't entirely human-readable in places, so it
may or may not help much.
