Just to check I understand the timeline: you turned on your computer, installed updates, then fired up Chromium. At this point your troubles started? At the risk of asking the bleeding obvious, since the update, have you tried rebooting your computer to see if it resolves itself? This probably isn't the answer, but the number of times I've spent hours trying to fix post-update issues when a reboot fixes them… could be a process that needs restarting to complete it update getting its knickers in a twist.
