Ok now I seem to have the sound issue resolved, I need to investigate
the Shutdown issue. Just to recap, pressing the shutdown button, the
screen will go black and then after a few seconds, it wioll light back
up to a dull light grey colour, the display light will both be
permanently on (not flashing), after about 20 second the keyboard lights
will go out that as far as it gets.
Now previously I have been able to get to a command line and type
shutdown -Ph now and it would shutdown but last night it got the same
point as the shutdown button.
I looked at the Syslog log and I can see when I selected shutdown but
nothing suggest that is failed to shutdown or waiting.
Is there anything I can enable to give more log, or the setting that
show the logs on screen as it shutdown so maybe I can catch something.
For the record my install is running Systemd and not sysvinit version
(MV Linux does both version)
Over to you guys
Regards
Tim

Good evening all
I have recently done a new install of MX Linux 23.6 onto a HP Omen PC.
Since installing I have two issues.
1) The PC will not shutdown via the shutdown button of via the CLI
interface by issuing the sudo shutdown -h now. In both cases the PC
will will turn the monitors off then the the monitors will flash and
come back on with like a dark grey light and the power light
permanently on. After about 40 seconds the Keyboard lights go out but
that as far as it goes. Pressing and holding the power button will
turn the PC off. I have found that using
sudo shutdown -Ph now
from the CLI will shut the PC down.
2), I have a sound issue, when my son owned this PC he had no issue
with sound (under windows 10). When he passed the PC over to me I have
used it for the past 18 month using headphones for team meeting etc.
No issue with sound.
Having installed MC Linux it make a horrible burping noise, like
plugging the speakers in when the PC is on, it make a horrible burp
noise then sound plays without issue. The burping noise happens every
time you play a sound or video, but once it has burped at the start of
the file the playback is perfectly OK.
I have tried back and front line-out ports on the PC and a different
set of speakers no difference, still have the horrible noise.
