Because its a production server, you should be most concerned about upgrading... you are using a VERY EARLY RELEASE CANDIDATE version (there were more than 30 (thats THIRTY) RC's of the 1.0 series) of an OLDER RELEASE version (dovecot is currently at 1.1.1 - lots of reasons to upgrade to the 1.1.x series)...
Hopefully you understand that most people don't have time to go back and read all of the release notes of all of the 40+ releases since yours was released to see if your particular problem was fixed.
