OK... here's the "I'm an idiot" part. Seems that this all is mostly my fault (though some of it is that the installer apparently isn't Vista friendly). I did have to manually create some of the local*.* files and history and mrumenu (*.txt) files... that's the installer fault.
But I noticed that my localprefs weren't being applied. So I removed all contents from the file and my error went away. Therefore I must've made a mistake when I copied from preferences.js into it (I thought I did CTRL+A, CTRL+C, CTRL+V) but something must've gotten missed. My localprefs is better now and so is my DQSD. Thanks for all the help.
