The white filter also probably needs to be replaced. The originals tend to "yellow" after a while, giving the dial a green cast. The hardware store "For Sale" &c plastic signs have plenty of "white space" on them and most of them are made of a material very similar to the original Drake filter.
Replacing the #47 bulbs with #755 bulbs gives approximately five times the expected life. They have slightly less light output, and don't fade/yellow the filters as fast.
Some have replaced the bulbs with LEDs, but I haven't seen a good color match yet, and they tend to "hot spot" (bright spot in the center) the dial.
