Every schematic I have for the RV-4 and RV-4C all show the #53 bulb. So it's probably a mod done by someone who wanted to standardize on 6V bulbs!. It's possible that Drake did it for the same reason, but if so it's the only one I've ever heard of.

Sp unless someone else pipes up with a similar unit, I'd say it was an owner mod.
