Curt -

There is no problem operating the 4 Series twins on 30M, you just have to use a 20.8 MHz crystal in the transmitter.

You have two choices for the receiver crystal. The 21.1 MHz crystal works ok in the receiver, but you can't transceive with receiver control. If you have a 20.8 MHz crystal in the receiver too, you can operate separate or transceive either way.

The problem is the transmitter IF is at 5.645 MHz, the PTO is around 5.25 MHz at mid range, and there are just too many spurs with all those signals floating around in the same area!

I notice that tables in the manuals list for the 30 meter band that the
appropriate crystal for the R-4 is 21.1 mHz, but for the T-4X the correct
crystal is 20.8 mHz, the 21.1 mHz says not to use between 10.1 and 10.25.

So, I'm guessing operating the 4line twins on 30 meter CW isn't appropriate?
