Last resort, I READ THE MANUAL!! :-)

The L-4B manual says that the drive should be adjusted for approximately 500W INPUT to the L-4B with no modulation.

Now.... That was written when transmitter power was regulated by INPUT power, and would theoretically result in 2000W INPUT of AM with 100% modulation.

Translated into today's OUTPUT oriented world, that would mean ~ 250W OUTPUT with no modulation, and would result in ~1000W output Peak or CW, which was the regulation back then (2000W INPUT or 1000W OUTPUT). This level is also what the amplifier was designed and specified for, e.g., 2000W INPUT.

I seem to recall about ~20W out of the T-4X, giving ~200W out of the L-4B. Remember there is NO ALC, so you want to keep it down a bit and preferably monitor with a scope.

Don't forget that the PTO reads about 800-900 Hz HIGH on AM!

Hi gang...
Using the T-4XC and L-4B on AM for the first time tonight..CAREFULLY.
OK, tune up good, go to AM have about .12 amps plate current at idle .... and 15 watts out with NO Mic input.
Seems a little high?

Also, with that scenario...I get 350 MA idle plate current on the L-4B with no Mic input...seems high??
73,
Thanks,
Lee
