A bit further up in the log I found this:
(**) RADEON(0): Virtual size is 1920x1440 (pitch 1920)

Setting the virtual resolution explicitly in the Display subsection in
XF86Config-4 overrides this. After setting it to 1152x864 I noticed that
all higher resolution default modes were discarded, e.g: 
(II) RADEON(0): Not using default mode "1920x1440" (width too large for virtual size)

This will probably also help with your "Statick" buffer allocation
problem ;-)
