Hello list,

We've been discussing general issues regarding the new DRI configuration
system recently on IRC. The most user-visible issue is the configuration
file format (until there is a GUI tool ;-).

In any case we need a more structured (nested) format than win.ini since
we want to be able to set parameters per driver/screen/application or
any combination of those. We tentatively decided to use XML for the
configuration file as well as for the drivers' specification of
available parameters. Other alternatives which were discussed AFAIR are
a Lisp-like syntax as in the mesa config file, python dictionaries (see
Ians mail "Configuration idea") or something completely home-made.
Unfortunately there seem to be no IRC logs of relevant meetings :-(

If anyone has serious objections to XML, please let us know (mail to
dri-devel will suffice ;-).

Regards,
  Felix
