------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-28-07 22:23 ------- Hi, Just wanted to share my positive experience with Hui Yu's patches. I just bought a Sony VAIO FRV-25 (w/o the modem problem) running Gentoo, here's an lspci after Hui's patches: 00:00.0 Host bridge: ATI Technologies Inc: Unknown device cbb2 (rev 02) 00:01.0 PCI bridge: ATI Technologies Inc PCI Bridge [IGP 340M] 00:03.0 Modem: ALi Corporation Intel 537 [M5457 AC-Link Modem] 00:04.0 Multimedia audio controller: ALi Corporation M5451 PCI AC-Link Controller Audio Device (rev 02) 00:06.0 Bridge: ALi Corporation M7101 PMU 00:07.0 ISA bridge: ALi Corporation M1533 PCI to ISA Bridge [Aladdin IV] 00:0a.0 CardBus bridge: Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c476 II (rev aa) 00:0a.1 CardBus bridge: Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c476 II (rev aa) 00:0a.2 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Ricoh Co Ltd R5C552 IEEE 1394 Controller (rev 02) 00:0c.0 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB (rev 50) 00:0c.1 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB (rev 50) 00:0c.2 USB Controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. USB 2.0 (rev 51) 00:0f.0 IDE interface: ALi Corporation M5229 IDE (rev c4) 00:12.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10) 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon IGP 340M I successfully patched 2.4.20-gentoo-r5 with a little work. It seems that some of the ATI stuff gets inserted inside the ALI section in agpgart_be.c by accident. I also had to change agp.h in the ATI_RS200 section to cbb2 instead of cab2. Once I did that, all the kernel stuff came up! :-) Linux agpgart interface v0.99 (c) Jeff Hartmann agpgart: Maximum main memory to use for agp memory: 409M agpgart: Detected ATI IGP330/340/345/350/M chipset agpgart: AGP aperture is 64M @ 0xf4000000 Following that, I installed xfree-4.3.99.8, as suggested here. This fixed a problem I had with external monitors and 4.3.0 permanantly turning off the LCD. Thanks Hui Yu! Great Job! :)) I still get this line, but I'll continue to hack at it... (II) RADEON(0): Direct rendering disabled But I wanted you guys to know I appreciate your efforts and your progress has not gone unnoticed. Thanks!
