------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED]  2003-01-08 12:57 -------
Re #9, I've now tried it. Here's what I found:

* With various values of the CCEusecTimeout (5000 -> 1000,000), I get a
reduction in frames-per sec of about 3 (Measuring with GL-Snake (which is
stable) goes from 30 down to 10 at full-screen). Colorfire really crawls.
Euphoria --cubism will usually work OK (and I left it for 10 mins), but it is
really jerky (about 1 fps) CPU load remains at full.

* This value seems to require a reboot to properly change it. Adding the
CCEusecTimeout line to XF86Config-4 and restarting X made the change "take", but
to revert to the original settings required a reboot - restarting X didn't
suffice (GL-snake was still ~10 fps). This seems Odd.

* I did manage to lock Euphoria again. Now with access to another machine to ssh
in from, I observe:
  * SSH from a remote machine works
  * The local keyboard does not work apart from some Sysrq keys
      (S,U,B work; R,K do not)
  * top via ssh reports the euphoria process as defunct, and the X process
     using 99 % CPU.
  * killing the x-server (via ssh) will recover the machine.

Re #15, that sounds promising. If you'd like more testing, I'll willingly help,
although I'd need a few pointers on what to do.

On another tack, does anyone know if/how to define extra sysrq combinations and
bind them to scripts of my own choice? (Eg, I'd like to have, say Alt-Sysrq-X
mapped to "kill -9 `/sbin/pidof X`")

Richard
