I've used the patch of alan cox on kernel 2.4.22 and selected the S3 driver module from menuconfig: I've tried both to build it inside the kernel and to create it as a module, however, glxinfo says I've direct rendering disabled, even if lsmod displays the module "savage" as loaded.
I use xfree 4.2.1.1.
