I am a bit puzzled with your patch - do you really need to hard code format field in r300_state.c ?
If not, please commit the modification for the texture format table, it looks fine to me. (and not really a hack ;) )

What i still have to figure is why this is second entry of tx_table that is used, thus why there is a 1 somewhere while we should have a 0. But i haven't fully understand how choose texture format work with mesa & r300, if anyone could provide me a hint :).
