yeah I had heard that too. it seems like they probably would have just gone to 12 bits. However, perhaps there are other issues over 2560 or they just say that because 1280x1024x2 is a common set up. I hope to get a r3xx or r4xx based card soon, at which point I plan to dig into the tiling.
