I'm using the drm-gem branches of mesa, drm and xf86-video-intel. On
xf86-video-intel i had to patch the gem detection in configure.ac kernel
2.6.25.6

Mesa:
[intel-gem] Chase domain flag renaming in the DRM.

drm:
[gem] Remove the drm_client_lock_take in set_domain.

xf86-video-intel:

I must stress again, though, that I do not see the text rendering
problems on an i945 laptop I have.
