I've never used Slackware, but it looks like you're missing MySQL libs. On my systems - Red Hat RHAS4 and FC6 - I have to have the requisite mysql-devel rpm package installed for the build to work.
Thanks for responding, but If you look at the build errors you will see that they directly reference specific libraries which were found, so the errors have nothing to do with missing libraries, as you have suggested. The errors refer to undefined references which are probably changes made between MySQL 4.x and 5.x. cheers Dale
