HI Bud,
I know you have said that you haven't had problems with this install before... 
just wondering where the antenna is in relation to the transceiver body and 
control head. 
The first thing I thought of was excessive RF getting back into to radio 
somehow... maybe things were "just on the edge" before, maybe the body panel 
the antenna is mounted on has got some galvanic diode action happening on high 
power.
Just some thoughts. I know my 2820H does not like low DC, it can do all kinds 
of weird things...
