True-
If you don't have an idea of what lithium and oxygen can do, don't attempt
fooling with the cells. Grant it, the 'ion' in lithium-ion
batteries made them much safer to handle. However, if you charge it wrong,
you may seperate the lithium from the other compounds.
Also, when that happens, oxygen is a byproduct from the electrolyte within
the battery. This combination can wreak havock to health
and home. There is however a fusible link within the battery. If this
fusible link blew, as I suspect, there is something terribly wrong
with your battery. There is a reason why companies will not sell raw Li-ion
cells to the general public. They however will design and
fab a 'battery-pack' based on your requirements. They automatically add in
the fuses, protection circuit, I2C bus for battery data
communications, charge/discharge algorithms, clock circuit, and thermal
sensors. Very complicated!.. Now days there is usually
1 or 2 IC's to perform all of the above functions with a few sensors but,
remember how many years ago the 2400 battery pack was
made. There is a 'boatload' of discrete components and discrete type IC's.
There just may be a very real problem with the
battery which caused the 5amp fuse to blow on the I/O board both times.
