Why is it hot, and what can I do? GET THE BATTERY OUT OF THE UNIT!!!! If ANY Duo runs hot in that area, you are placing GREAT stress on the charging/PS components inside...and that WILL toast your logic board. That area of the logic has the power charge regulation circuits....you can toast them by letting them get that hot. Pull the batt, boot off the charger. If all runs well, you're lucky! If you're handy with tools, pop the battery apart and check each cell. I'll bet you'll find shorted cells throughout the pack. If you've run the unit for any long period of time, you possibly have a damaged logic. Borrow (if possible) a known good used battery (i.e., one that you KNOW works fine) and test the unit on battery power. As for the PRAM batt., there are several possiblities....if you're technically savvy, whip up one w/NiCad cells (I've seen some small cells that may work....YMMV) and/or just buy a new one. Do reset the power manager, the reason you're getting flakey startups. The modem adapter you have is for the European version of the modem....don't throw it away, may be some 'Listers that can use one. If you're set on using an external, you can pull the modem and do the ADB mod several of the 'Listers were kind enough to post. However, even my overclocked Duo 2300 doesn't get more than a bit warm....if ANY unit gets that hot, you've got a problem. Even 2400/G3's. <<grin>> Andrew ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net! A listserv for users and fans of Mac subportables.
