XLR8 may be investigating, but it's a pretty long shot, even for the PB G3.

I happen to know that the G4 uses about 12 watts of power. By comparison,
the G3s used in PowerBooks tend to be 6 watts or less. Aside from the
consideration of whether the internal power supply of either the PB G3 or
the 2400 could handle the extra power, neither of them is equipped to get
rid of that much heat from the CPU. Those 300 MHz Wall Streets ran pretty
darn hot in the first place, as does a Newer 240 G3 upgraded 2400.
Doubling the CPU power use would make the poor machines fry.

With the PB G3 there's also the issue of getting around the fact that
Apple's proprietary ROM sits on the CPU daughtercard.
