"Illegal" makes me wonder about his credibility.  There's nothing illegal
about desoldering a chip and moving it to another board.  (If there was I'd
probably move to another country right now... we haven't lost *that* many
rights yet, though we're steadily being driven there by scare politics on
several fronts.)  It blows your warranties to hell, of course, but I doubt
that's an issue for machines as old as the Duo and 6500.  :)
