The 1400 and 2400 are more expensive than 3400c now. I don't think the
1400 worth the inflated price tag even in used condition. Several mail
order store are selling 3400c/180 for around US$1000. I own three
PowerBooks 1400, 3400, and 280c. My PB 1400 is upgraded to 233MHz G3,
and it is FAST! but the lacks of Async I/O and DMA architecture will
limit its usage as 'normal' laptop, we can't do serious audio work on
the machine. On the other hand, my much slower 3400c (same speed as
2400c/180 I believe), can do 16 tracks of audio (DECK II) without
choking. I'm lucky if I can playback stereo track without clicks and
pops on the 1400 machine even with its 233MHz processor. 3400c is one of
the Digidesign supported machine for running ProTools PowerMix software,
that's the reason I get one, stupid isn't it?
