Hi Jon and all,

>I contacted MCE who fixed my 2400 for $350.

I sent mine to DT&T and they replaced my logicboard about a month ago for
about that price.

>I'm very disappointed in hearing of all of the 2400s that are dying. I
>wonder if mine will again

So am I. :-/ Mine is starting to display some of the same symptoms it did
when the logicboard started going out last time. Luckily the board is
under warrantee for six months, but I would still have to pay for shipping
and labor if it went out again...and why would it so soon??

>its making me wonder whether or not i want
>my 2400 to ocme to college with me, or if i'll just sell it for a desktop
>mac.

I don't know what to do either. The 2400 is the perfect computer for me if
it would only stay in working order!

>DO you think maybe its some kind of engineering flaw and its Apple's
>fault?

This possibility has been discussed a lot on the list, but it seems most
people feel it is "normal" for a computer to be unrelieable once the
warrantee runs out. Also, many people staunchly defend the 2400, saying it
is the best computer they have ever had, and their 'books have never had
ANY problems! Its hard to tell what percentage of the list has had
logicboard problems without doing some type of survey.

>I would NOt be a happy camper if my 2400 died again.

Me neither! Good luck to all of us 2400 owners.

Jon, if a desktop would suit you and you can afford it, personally I would
consider it while your 2400 is still running and has a battery that works.
Its really a drag that this model is not well supported, but from what
people on this list say, batteries and parts will always be expensive, and
each time it needs something you might feel like you are paying the
machine's total value for a part. In my opinion, it would be better to
sell it now than wait until it breaks again. Imagine how pissed you'd be
to pay to get it fixed and then only recover the cost of your bill with the
price it fetches!

Take care all,
Corina
