a friend of mine had clickering sounds from the back of his 2400,
something was loose in the PC Card slot (sound like something metallish
is sliding gliding back and forth).

no repair in germany, so he sold it (because he could not longer stand
the sound) and got one of those 2400c for 999$-machines early this year.
If it sounds like a loose screw you should tighten it. I had a loose
screw when I first opened it up, falling from the cpu board. but the shop
should have tightned it when they reinstalled the HD. so it could be
something fomr the PC Card slot.

another topic:

I just installed a new/used cpu that I got from some helpful lister. The
my brother's pb was real dead. no sudden wake up from death like Holgers,
no resetting and stuuf, the cpu was gone. I was lucky to figure that out
by putting the (working) parts from my 2400 into his machine and so by
trial and error, I found out it was the cpu. now the pb is working again,
after 2 months of coma. me lucky! very.
I hope no-one is offended by me mixing topics....

all the best.
