I definitely tried all of the options you have mentioned - except 
using FWB, since I don't have it. Worth a try but I guess it 
shouldn't matter too much now as I can't see the venerable old 2300 
going beyond OS 8.6. Actually I've ordered an iMac to replace the 
monitor and network to it and am keeping my fingers crossed. Not 
least because the van containing mine and others DV iMacs have 
(allegedly) all gone missing in transit and I'm waiting for another!
