Ken,

I was in the same position as you 6 months ago. I ended up buying a 2400,
and it was the right decision for me. A lot depends on your requirements.
I needed the smallest modern PB available. I sue mine to run my business,
and I travel every day, so I wanted/needed something really portable. The
4 pound weight and the size were the determining factors for me. The duos
were out because they are too old, and everything else was just too big
for my tastes. If smallness isn't a factor for you, I would suggest
getting something else. The new ibooks are close in price to the 2400's,
especially if you get one with an upgrade. I have one upgraded with a
240mhz processor and a 3.2 gig hard drive and it ran me $1500. The new
ibooks run $1599.

Seems to depend a lot on which one you get. Seems like they are either
total crap with lots of problems, or rock solid. I have had zero problems
with mone and love it to death.

>Will it run OS9?

yes

>Whats the max RAM and is it enough to surf, email,
>icq..all at the same time?

80 megs, yes it's enough. I run Quicken, quickbooks, IE, emailer, AIM,
efax and Appleworks at the same time and mine doesn't crash. I'm running
8.6
>Largest HD I can fit into it?

I want to say 12 gig, but something larger may have come out recently.

>What are my upgrade card options and how much do they cost?

Right now the only real upgrade options are to find a used newer tech 240
mhz card for $500 ot more or get a 320 mhz copper chip from Vimage that
runs $1099 or a 400 mhz for $1399.

>How is the supply of batteries etc? Am I going to have to pay a bomb for
>these items?

poor supply of batteries, but BTI is supposed to come out with some new
ones in a month or so. Yes you will pay through the nose for them. Approx
$25 or more.

>I can use a PCMCIA modem right? Ethernet support?

Yes, and yes

>And finally, where can I get one of these 2400s..?
