The Sony VAIO, which is to me designed as a dream laptop, the model I'm 
referring to is the very THIN unit that when closed is only 3/5 of an inch, 
also requires an external floppy, an external cd rom, and external 
accessories.  If we are really looking for a light computer, we need to 
compromise and assume that not everything can be fit inside.  Much of the 
bulk comes from fitting it all in.  The size of a cd rom and floppy are 
unchangable, so sadly enough we have to deal with those limitations.
A internal fan is also quite crucial in my estimation, and again, that also 
bulks up the potentially paper thin future of any laptop.
But who knows, I sense that with voice activated laptops in the future, 
hooked directly to our brains, a need for a keyboard and screen will be a thin
g of the past.
