I believe Apple is "scheduled" to produce a 4 pound or so machine, 
based on Pismo, 1Q01.

Too long for me -- I and the rest of the office just group-purchased 
a bunch of Toshiba Portege 3440CTs and some copies of Fusion. 500 Mhz 
PIII runs most stuff decently, 3.4 lbs, 1024x768... add a 18gig drive 
and total 180MB of memory, for under $2300...

As for the 2400/duo/accessories debate: c'mon, guys. Both the 2400 
and the duo were (repeat: were) great machines in their time, (and 
while you could use ethernet and a modem at the same time,) but the 
whole debate about "you'll have to carry around a bunch of crap" is 
dead. Toshiba and Sony, among others, make tiny little 3lbs. machines 
that have anything you need, from ethernet to video...
