I have had a 2300c since they came out, and am holding on to it until Apple
comes out with another sub-4.5 lb computer. In general, it is great, but I
would like more speed and ram.

These are the greatest drawbacks, in my mind. Mine is maxed to 56MB, which
is the limit. There are also no speed upgrades.

I have used OSes up to 8.6, and prefer 8.1 because 8.6 seems to use about
8-10 MB more ram, or close to 20 MB for the OS alone. Even 8.1 uses a lot.
The big loss from 8.6 down to 8.1 is the loss of Sherlock, but if you are
not hooked up to the net, it doesn't matter much. With your limited RAM
configuration, you might want to even try 7.6.1, but I forget if it will
run on the 2300c. I would avoid 8.0 and 8.01 as buggy.

RAM doubler works well, and gives you the advantages of virtual memory
(lower RAM usage) without using your hard drive. I use it without any
increase in ram size. Speed doubler provides some speed increase.

Enjoy
