>For all of you Duo 230 >thru 280 owners, don't write off System 7.1.x just yet...it's probably more >stable than 7.6, and certainly LOTS faster. >The other nice thing about 7.1 is that its so customizable. Features of 7.6 >(if one wants them) can easily be manually added ; e.g. Quicktime 2.5 or 3.0, >Open Transport 1.1.2, Open Transport PPP 1.0, SuperClock, etc. Even >some applications that claim 7.6.1 is required like Netscape 4.08 will install >and run fine on a 7.1 machine if one installs the CFM Runtime Enabler 4.0 >and Object Support Lib 1.2 extensions. My experience too. Some of the 7.5 apps (Stickies, Jigsaw) give you a dialog box saying they may not run properly, but they do. One word of bizarre warning, however: installing OT under 7.1 is almost impossible to undo - if you subsequently bin it and try to reinstall MacTCP, every restart turns the MacTCP control panel invisible and wipes its filetype. I've never managed to track down what does this; others on this list may have a clue. It's possibly the most disgraceful, MS-like behaviour ever witnessed on a Mac...
