There are two types of networking, Classic (Mac TCP) and OpenTransport. With
OT 1.1.2 there is a little utility in Apple Extras called "Network Software
Selector" that allows the switching between the two. Click a button, restart
and you are back to classic networking.

And you guessed it, it makes the other one invisible. Most users don't know
enough to go looking for invisible files and never think anything about it.
