>I am planning on buying one of the MCE harddrives to install in my 2400.

The mac2400 site (pesky new URL evades my brain at the moment, but
I'm sure somebody (ralph, ash?) can produce it from memory... or you
can just follow the old link <http://www.sineware.com/mac2400> if it
is still there) has excellent step by step take aparts available.

>Has anyone done this on their own? I'd like to save the $89 bucks, and I

>Is this something best left to the experts?

That depends... I have done mine several times... the last being a
few weeks ago when my beloved 2400 was rattled and dusted to
near-death on a wild trip around Nevada in a 46 year old car
<http://www.goolsbee.org/lcn>... Itwas barely running and required a
good cleaning and the reinsertion of at least three screws that
rattled loose. In fact I am about to do it again to make one
uber-2400 from two... (long story, weird ambitions... later)

If you are comfortable with complicated, intricate, and delicate
electronics... then feel free. If it is just some guy who has
replaced a hard drive in a desktop Mac, then by all means seek an
expert. The 2400 innards will confound them beyond belief.

>(I'm not worried about backing up the harddrive as I have very little on it
>that can't be put on a zip)

The other option is find one of us on the list who has done this
before. I have always said the is an open offer on my part to perform
open-2400 surgery for any Duo lister in the Seattle area, provided
they come to me and supply some beverage and pleasant conversation.
Any other providers out there? maybe Ralph and Ash could add a page
for willing surgeons like myself. Whaddya say guys?

The least hassle method would be shell out the bucks to MCE.
