Eric,

I'm not sure about others opinions here, but I think "crap" was accurate
enough. Too many design problems to risk your money on, although the
ones out there that still work are probably as likely to remain working
for years to come as a 1400. Of course, if you actually meant "cripe", I
can't really comment :)

Buy a 1400 or newer if you must run PowerPC-native sw. buy a 190 or 5xx
if all you do is word processing. None of the rest of us can assess the
worth of saving hundreds of dollars vs. having "the latest thing" -- only
you can see the relative value in what you want vs what you need. Very,
VERY few of us here really need the processing power in our current
machines (be it a G3'd 2400 or a Duo 230). We are trained by current
society to be an impatient lot, always trying to satisfy our egos with
toys. But then again, it's that ego that ultimately drives the desires
which keep our standard of living afloat. If your ego lets you do your
email and word processing on a PowerBook 170, then by all means keep the
170 -- you'll save a ton of money not chasing the "latest/greatest" BS
arguments, you'll not rack up a ton of worthless and stressful debt --
and life will be good. If you "must" have a zippy machine and have a
driving need to upgrade, then avoid the 5300 series.

$0.02 from me -- if worth that much.
