I am not a lawyer [nor do I play one on tv]... but it occurs to me that
there may be a legal workaround with the problem of copyright on comments
when importing journals.
Drawing on the experience of writing fan-fic [yes, really!] if the import
procedure preserves attribution, ie the user name or OpenID ideally, then as
long as it *also* embeds a disclaimer in each comment page to the affect
that all copyright belongs to so&so the orginator and this copy is for
archivial use only [and locks the comment so it can't be altered after
importing] then as far as I am aware it's covered by fair-usage and archival
law.
I should point out though that as far as I know, this hasn't been tested in
court yet...but that's the advice I was given by someone who *is* a lawyer.
