It isn't strictly necessary to have denominations in an entirely electronically tracked system, but it may (a) make it easier to upsell and (b) serve as some very low-level insider knowledge. (Also, if there's ever a desire for iconic representations of your point balance, some currency differentiation would be useful.) --zvi
