Paul was talking about renaming (like you'd buy a rename token for on LJ). Having your DW account claim your OpenID account is a functionality that is planned for Sometime In the Future (possibly after site launch, if I'm reading the bugreports correctly.) At open beta, there will not be a connection between your OpenID account and your personal Dreamwidth account. (Hope this shows up okay. Paul is too tired to continue talking in the third person. (If I have a right mind, I haven't been in it for decades, but there's a bad kind of insane, too. The pressure on the machine that controls one of my pile of sleeping disorders was just about tripled a week or so ago, but I went straight out of my head with fatigue yesterday. And I'm still fuzzy-headed now, even a couple of hours after breakfast. So apologies if I... uhm... well, if I do or say anything that needs an apology.) Anyway... I have an OpenID account on DW now. Come 4/30, I plan to buy a seed account if I can or get an account of some sort if I can't. For the sake of a piece of glitter (small, but still shiny), I'd kind of like to have that account have the user number of my current OpenID account. Which, unless I'm misunderstanding, basically comes down to having my DW account claim my OpenID. Or, more properly, "upgrading" my OpenID account to a full account. Which could happen down the road, but not for open beta? Now I'm not sure what's possible. If you can make it possible to upgrade an OpenID account, I could do that and use it as my primary account, allowing the open beta account to just be temporary/secondary. But that seems a waste if the open beta account manages to be a seed account. Although... I've got two LJs now. I suppose I could keep and use both. But the second one is much more private. So I guess I'd have to think (when my head stops spinning) about how to make that work. Which actually reminds me of another question... I saw something about linking identities so that you have a primary account that manages one or more secondary journals? Will it be possible to do that in such a way that the journals aren't visibly/publicly linked? (Not sure what the advantage of doing that would be anyway, but it could possibly be handy.
