Sorry Charles.

I regret that you had a bad experience with one person at Ten Tec. But to
extrapolate from that doom for the company is a bit much.

Further, I must take exception to your constant use of the term "orphans."
That is not only unfair but a total misrepresentation.

To me, an "orphan" radio is one that has had all support (including repair)
abandoned by it's manufacturer... sometimes because the manufacturer is no
longer in the radio business.

Just like every other manufacturer, Ten Tec has discontinued models over the
years, due to poor sales; replaced by an updated unit; or an inability to
obtain certain components. (For example, one factor in the replacement of
the Orion with the Orion II is that the Orion's main processor has been
discontinued by Motorola; word is that they stockpiled a good number of
spares just in case, but to continue building new Orion's with no hopes of
future direct-drop-in replacement CPU's would be, at best, unwise).

Keeping in mind that some parts just plain are no longer available, my
personal experience has been that if they have the part, Ten Tec will
service their radios. Period.

That's something that the bigger manufacturers can not always do. As I've
previously mentioned, to pick on Kenwood, certain components are no longer
available for my TS-140S, and I've been told not to bother them with
requests for factory service. Yet my much older Ten Tec Corsair can be sent
in for repairs at any time. So which rig is the orphan?

To summarize: Do you have an issue with TT Service? Yes. Which you need
to take up with them.

Making inaccurate statements about the company on this and other reflectors
does not help your cause.

There is not a little of any more of my story. The repair advice T T guy
just blew his job this time and I wanted to say that is not correct.

For orphans, look at T T web site for a list. The fault, Dear Brutus, is
also the mfgs. who just stop making a part with no regard to its users.

Gotta shake the tree sometimes to get the ripe top fruit. Unfortunately,
some rotton ones also rain down on one's head, 73
