Why not use grid squares, 5 and 0 cover an awful lot of are. Even just the
first two letters would nail it down somewhat. In the extreme case nothing
is good enough; I have seen 9 S units of difference from 10 miles of
separation. That was on 6M, but  have seen it almost as bad on on HF.
