IMHO version 7.03 was when it got screwed up.  What it says is exactly
correct prior to that when you had the special keys enabled, ESC would not
exit you out of real time entry, exactly correct but ESC did do what it
should and that is stop the CW being sent immediately without any other
effect. If you disable the special keys function then ESC will exit you out
of real time entry.  7.02.15 works correctly, 7.03 it was changed and not
for the better.

A fix would be to return ESC to its proper function of immediately stopping
any CW being sent and use some other key stroke combination, perhaps ALT/ESC
to exit real time entry, or return to having to disable the special key
function before it will exit you out of real time entry.  I think this is
what people didn't like so perhaps something like the ALT/ESC key
combination to exit real time entry would satisfy everyone.

According to the revision history a similar problem was solved with version
7.03. But then Esc should not work with 7.02.
