OK I found Max's post in the archive with a quoted response from K1EL ...who points the finger a DX4WIN (not unexpected ...he said ..she said?). I am not taking sides at this point anyone have "official dialog" with the AD1C & the DX4WIN team about the problem before I go bugging them?

Thanks that  indeed did get DX4WIN and  WINKEY to talk to each other

A bit of a kludge ... I am still digging through the archives a month at a time (Grrrrrr 8^( ) for N5NHJ's posts on the subject

Hi Dave,

When you have opened the keyboard window, try using Alt-F9 or F-10 to set the keyer speed.  This may wake up the Winkey connection.  That is the way
mine works.

Thanks ... When I do this ( And save changes and exit setup) then I hit
ALT-K which brings up the keyboard window, At the top of the Window it
says WINKEY NOT RESPONDING ( and of course no text is sent to the keyer
when typed and I cant get to the Keyer set up from the Keyboard window)

If I immediately close DX4WIN and open N1MM+ ...winkey is immediately
recognized in N1MM and I am able to talk through the keyer with stored
messages or in keyboard mode and it sends CW to the radio no problem

Restarting DX4WIN ( or the computer) does not change anything

??????????

In the*File > Preferences > CW window I simply have Device Type:
WinKey and External keyer Port: Com 10 (yours is Com 2) all the others
have None.*

_Now here is the other main part: _Alt-K brings up the keyer window in
DX4WIN. Then right-click on that window and bring up the Settings for
the WinKey itself.

Here is what I have:

Keyer Mode: Iambic A       Pin 5 Config: 5=PTT Priority: Normal
Hang Time: 1:00

There are other Mode Register settings below that but those are for
the spacing and weight etc.

Once everything is running you can either use the knob on the WinKey
itself to change the speed or Alt-F9 and Alt-F10 on the keyboard.

Mine works fine here.

Maybe I am just dense but I cant seem to successfully configure DX4WIN
to use WINKEY-USB keyer.

Running a TS990 on the serial port (not USB port) on COM 1, which talks
to DX4WIN just fine, I have the WINKEY USB on COM2. Winkey works just
fine in stand alone with the demo program and also with N1MM+ contest
logger but I cant seem to find the secret phrase to get it to talk to
DX4WIN. Have tried about just every combo I can thing of in the
<preferences><CW> window

....Help!
