All, Thanks for the constructive hints. DXbase requires pins 7 and 8 connected at the PC in order to provide RTS/CTS loop-back if one uses a cable where only pins 2,3 and 5 are connected (or a RS-232 cable wired for hardware handshake). I modified my RS-232 cable accordingly and now it works. Simple cause but I ran into the trap of "all other programs work" (which they do, however because they allow to select hardware- or software handshaking....).
Tony, I had the same idea but I cannot get the escape character transmitted with the file upload command. So I have to initialize the TNC line by line. Hope that Jack considers implementing a script upload thing.
