The topic of filtering incoming spots to exclude this or that based on
something in comments comes up from time to time. We don't rule it out, but
there are many other things that occupy our time at the moment. But more
importantly, we also sometimes have to make a judgement call about this kind
of thing. Specifically, is it the rightful role of a logging program to
filter out data coming to it, or is it better for the data to be stopped at
the source on a per user basis( the cluster ). It seems to us that this
enhancement should be one that is taken up by the makers of the cluster
software. Not only does it help reduce unwanted traffic on the net or VHF
connection, it also reduces unwanted traffic within the cluster software
itself thereby making the cluster software less burdened.

If we provided a filter for all the cases that have been mentioned, there
would be a noticeable slowdown in processing incoming spots. Nothing that
couldn't be overcome, but in the end one does have to ask whether it is
appropriate to do this after the fact rather than stopping it at the source.

Just our opinion,
Jack
