The problem is, and always has been, that the overhead in purchasing e-gold is very high for buyers, if they are not offered a discount by the seller. Even if the seller offered a discount, the entire spread for e-gold's exchange rates, would still be far higher than the cost of a merchant account for the seller. Moreover, e-gold can only be used by buyers when purchasing from known sellers, else they risk losing through fraud. If you weren't paid in e-gold, would you want to purchase an airline ticket, with it? From the other side, if you were an airline, would you want to stop accepting payments in USD, or offer an e-gold discount greater than the average spread, which would be greater than about 5%? How could it be advantageous? I don't think DGC markets will ever be buyer-seller markets. I think they have a niche for international transactions, especially for international B-to-B transactions. For settlements like this, DGCs are superb. Try sending a bank wire to Bombay? It may take 5 - 10 days to get there. E-Gold will clear in seconds.
