Brandon,

We obviously have internal tools that we use to do this, including
manufacturing tools. We do not support customers upgrading the EEPROM
images. There would be way too much confusion over what the correct
image is. Some of our NICs do have EEPROM images that can boot the
system over iSCSI as I've said but even these images are not field
upgradeable. One of the biggest problems for trying to do upgrades of
the EEPROM image is that the MAC address is stored in it which each
image unique.

So in general there is no reason to update the EEPROM images of our
NICs. We (Intel) don't do it and don't recommend that any customers do
it either.

Cheers,
John

Subject: Re: [E1000-devel] flash firmware on PRO/1000 PT from Linux?

I am looking for a flash utility (and probably some information on
usage)
that can flash the EEPROM. I am also interested in what is stored on
the
EEPROM, is it possible to flash a new version of firmware onto the cards
or
is it used just for PXE/iSCSI boot info? We are working on tools to
flash
BIOS, update firmware on RAID controllers, etc. I was not able to find
any
firmware updates for the PRO/1000 ethernet cards on Intel's website but
someone on my team swears they exist.
