The answer will be something like we need to make sure
the stuff we buy is guaranteed, is supported, is
widely used, no hidden bugs/tricks/spyware/trojan
horses, and I can continue like this for 5 minutes.

Another reason, even more important, is that they 
sometimes have to justify buying an UNKNOWN (by them)
product to their own managers...
