Taoism seems to me to have a lot to offer ecofeminism. The whole system is
built on the natural balance of male and female polarity. It is a belief
in the primacy of nature, and offers no dogmatic resistance to science.
Taoists don't go door to door giving out literature. They figure you'll
figure it out on your own. They figure there's not such thing as "on your
own". They also figure there's no such thing as "they".
Taoism also, IMO, has developed a male bias in the last couple of thousand
years. This bias reflects the lessening value that oriental as well as
occidental societies have put on the female principle. I figure the world
goes through yin and yang ages and we are at this polarity shift now.
I think we are all biased against "being" and in favor of "doing". People
want to put their mark on the world, even though the world is sure marked
up enough already.
What will happen to turn us back to a heartfealt honoring of the feminine
principle? I suspect it will be the dawning of the realization that
humans don't really know squat about the larger picture. I believe that
Gaia is a reasoning entity, that humans are an organ in this entity and
that individuals are like cells when viewed from a planetary level. I
strongly suspect that we are being used to do the bidding of the whole
planet. At any rate, i feel that humanity needs to be in a more receptive
state of mind, and that a sure sign that we are headed that way is the
nearly universal and untenable high state of disregard that the feminine is
held in at present.
