Teri,
You were told in your women's studies course that you were ignoriong your
oppressions???? I'm really uncomfortable with that!! (not with you, but
with the fact that someone in your class said this, because it sounds
invalidating of your perspectives - as if to say that your perspective
doesn't count because it's based on "false consciouness", another concept
that I have a problem with!!!)
Anyway, I'm just thinking out loud here..... one may recognize that the
structure of
patriarchy exists but that it manifests itself differently given class,
race, gender,
sexual, geographic locations/positions. So I guess, rather than saying
"all women are oppressed" I would say that given one's unique cultural,
historical, social, sexual, racial, class, gender etc. position,
patriarchy manifests itself differently.
