This exchange of e-mails points to a wonderful opportunity for the AAG Economic Geography Group. I suggest that an immediate effort be made to trademark the terms "Brilliant Research," "Highly Original and Imaginative Academic Work," "Superlative Scholarly Achievement," and, last but not least, "Economic Geography."

So what happens if we write papers that use these terms? Can we theoretically be sued or will we/our publishing outlets have to pay royalties to UT? In a funnier sense, it reminds me of Luck Kellaway of the FT's (sub)alter-ego from a few years back - Martin Lukes - and his Creovation(tm) trademark - http://wikibin.org/articles/creovation.html.
